A loving look back at my father, Edward J. Hagan

by Beth Hagan Tuck

Through your link with the Find A Grave website, I became aware of your Association and the 24th Infantry Division. At the urging of your webmaster, I have put together a brief photo tribute to my father, Edward J. Hagan, who passed away in 2005.

My father served with the 34th Infantry Regiment and 24th Recon in Korea in 1955-56, and was Life Member #974 of your Association. He lived in Albion, MI. His TAPS notice appeared on page 6, Vol. 63(3) Summer 2009 Taro Leaf.

I do not know very much about my father's time in Korea; after he was gone I uncovered some of his photos. But even then I was not able to learn much. But with some help, I was able to at least learn a bit. That is presented in the seven photos below. (Click on photo to enlarge.)

The first five photos are of my father, PFC Edward Hagan, in Korea from October 1955 to August 1956. Photo 1 shows my father on the DMZ in 1955; photo 2 shows him at a DMZ marker in 1956; photo 3 shows him with an MP armband probably still on DMZ in Dec. 1955; photo 4 shows him in Feb. 1956 still a PFC; and photo 5 shows him in Apr 1956, now a Corporal, at a place unknown other than Korea.

Photo 6 (second from right above) shows my father behind sign with at least one know insignia visible, that of the 34th Infantry Regiment (on right) and was dated May 1955 so it must have been taken in Japan prior to the Regiment returning to Korea.

Finally, the last or seventh photo, whose caption reads: “This is all of us together before we left. From left to right Katz, Jerry, me, Jones (from Vincences Indiana) and Sharp. Boy don't we look like something out of a funny book? Eddie." I do not know the location of this photo.

Perhaps one of you may remember or recognize my father, or may have more information than I on my father's pictures. If so I would be grateful if you would contact me. Beth Hagan Tuck,  tuckea[at]cinci.rr.com
