2010 Florida 24th IDA/5th RCT Mini-Reunion

The Florida 24th IDA group teamed with the 5th RCT, especially Bill Kane and Tony Polemeni, who have been holding annual 5th Mini Reunions in St. Augustine. Thirty-six members, wives and family members arrived in St. Augustine mostly on Thursday, and immediately came to the two side-by-side hospitality suites where they shared memories with old friends and found many new ones. The Trolley to catch a ride to historic St. Augustine or the many nearby shopping areas stopped on the hour at the door to our hotel. Many took advantage of this on Friday or at other times as well; most at one time or another took a leisurely stroll on the Atlantic beaches right outside our hotel.

Saturday morning was spent in a short business meeting at which we decided to continue with our new-found joint relationship--the 24th IDA and the 5th RCT--by planning for another joint reunion about the same time and at the same place next year.

There also was discussion of the upcoming 5th RCT Annual National Reunion to be in Tampa Florida, April 4-10, 2011, as well as the recent 24th IDA National Reunion in Buffalo, NY.

Saturday evening saw 33 of our attendees engaging in a very special and very tasty banquet. Tony Polemeni led the program, with Cal Karram fulfilling the Honor Guard and POW/MIA ceremonies. Bill Allen surprised everyone when he personally presented Bill Kane and Tony Polemeni and the reunion with a POW/MIA flag. Helen Kane saw to it that everyone had a small gift to help remember the evening.

While everyone each brought very much to the event, we want to especially thank 24th Sec/Treas, John Dunn from Westover, AL; 24th VP Don Maggio, and his father-in-law, Jakie Cauble from North Carolina; 5th RCT President Frank Jennings for coming to our Mini-Reunion, and the 5th RCT members coming from the North East U.S.

And we also want to thank Bill Allen for freely sharing of his experiences as a POW and for bringing copies of his book "My old box of memories."

Another Mini-Reunion about at the same time, and also at the same place will be held in 2011. You are invited to that one so stay tuned for information as it becomes available.
